Success Story
Audiovisual technology behind Soldaat van Oranje – De Musical
Technology that becomes part of the performance.
Soldaat van Oranje – De Musical offers audiences a unique theatre experience. Inside the TheaterHangaar, the seating area rotates between different sets, literally moving the audience through the story.
Audiovisual technology plays an important role in creating this experience. AVEX supports the production with projection technology and media servers that need to perform reliably, show after show. Audiovisual technology has also been used to make the musical accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences and other sign language users.
The challenge
Reliable technology in a unique theatre environment
In a theatre production where scenery, projection and movement are closely connected, audiovisual technology has to perform at exactly the right moment. The technology is part of the production, but should never distract from the story.
The rotating auditorium at the TheaterHangaar makes the environment particularly unique. During the performance, the audience moves between different scenes, with audiovisual content continuously adapting to the scenery and progression of the story.
At the same time, the production runs intensively. This places high demands on the reliability and continuity of the audiovisual systems. A technical issue simply cannot be allowed to bring a performance to a halt.
The solution
Projection technology that moves seamlessly with the performance
AVEX supplied ten projectors that integrate audiovisual content into the scenery. Two synchronised Watchpax 62b media servers provide reliable control, with one system serving as a backup.
After years of intensive use, the hardware was renewed, ensuring that the installation is ready for many more performances.
To make the production accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences and other sign language users, live sign language interpreters, cameras, displays and surtitles were also introduced. The technology works in sync with the unique rotating auditorium, ensuring both the performance and interpretation remain easy to follow.
Immersive Projection
Reliable Continuity
Two synchronised media servers provide redundancy and automatic backup.
Accessible Performance
Surtitles, live sign language interpreters and displays make the production accessible to a wider audience.
Technology in Motion
The systems are designed to work seamlessly with the rotating auditorium and changing scenes.
The result
A theatre experience where technology stays in the background
For the audience, the unique theatre experience takes centre stage. Behind the scenes, reliable audiovisual technology ensures that visuals, scenery and technical systems work seamlessly together during every performance.
The combination of projection, redundant systems and accessibility solutions provides continuity while making the production accessible to a wider audience.
The technology stays in the background, allowing the experience to take centre stage.
“It still feels somewhat unusual: a production running for so long that the hardware has to be replaced because it has simply worn out. I’ve never experienced that before. Because of its stability and reliability, together with AVEX we decided to choose Watchout again.” Gijsbert Stalenhoef Head Lighting Technician, Soldaat van Oranje – De Musical
