How can you make sustainable AV measurable? The role of data and digital product passports
So how can you actually make sustainability measurable and verifiable?
In this episode of the BRIX zero Podcast, Marjolein Koens-Schaddelee talks to Kelly Ruigrok, founder and CEO of GSES. Together, they discuss how reliable sustainability data helps organisations make better choices and actually substantiate sustainability claims.
As an organisation, you want to choose increasingly sustainable AV solutions. But how do you know if a product is truly sustainable?
That’s not always straightforward. Sustainability claims, certifications, product information and supply chain data are often scattered across different sources. This makes it difficult to properly compare, substantiate and transparently communicate the impact of AV solutions.

Episode summary
The demand for transparent sustainability data is growing rapidly. Organisations want to know the impact of their products, suppliers and facilities. At the same time, there is an increasing body of legislation surrounding sustainability reporting and digital product passports.
Kelly Ruigrok realised that there are hundreds of certifications, labels and frameworks worldwide for measuring sustainability. This often makes the process complex and fragmented for organisations. With GSES, she therefore developed a platform that brings these standards together and translates them into a single system for sustainability data.
In the interview, Kelly explains how organisations can upload their existing certifications, how product data is compiled, and how digital product passports provide insight into the materials, production, use and end-of-life of products.
The importance of independent verification is also discussed. Data only becomes truly valuable once it has been checked and validated. That is why the platform works with external certification bodies that carry out audits. This ensures that sustainability claims are not based on assumptions or marketing.
This is particularly relevant for organisations in the AV sector. AV solutions consist of complex products involving many different materials and suppliers. Bringing together data from across the entire supply chain provides insight into CO₂ emissions, circularity and material usage. This helps organisations to make more informed sustainable choices and to ensure transparency.
